The Best Gimbal For Lumix G85 Cameras!

The Panasonic mirrorless camera range is increasing in popularity with each passing month with more and more videographers and vloggers switching over to using Panasonic camera bodies for their video recording. Due to this, more and more people are reaching out and asking for advice on a number of different camera accessories for their new Panasonic camera body and one question that we have seen asked more and more over recent months is for advice on the best gimbal for Lumix g85 cameras.

We always try to base our articles around what we actually see people reaching out for advice on so we have decided to focus on this for today’s article. Our hope is that we will be able to help any of our readers who own the Panasonic Lumic g85 and we looking to add a decent handheld gimbal stabilizer to their collection of camera accessories. Thankfully, in this day and age, there are a number of solid 3 axis gimbals on the market that should be able to meet your needs but there are two that stand head and shoulders above the rest in our opinion.

These are the Zhiyun Weebill S and the Moza Aircross 2 and although the Aircross 2 is an excellent handheld gimbal, we feel that the Weebill S should definatley be your primary consideration for your g85. Not only is it slightly cheaper while offering slightly better performance than the Aircross 2 but it also has managed to become the dominant gimbal in its weight class within a matter of months while also rightfully building an excellent reputation for itself.

The Weebill S is also an extremely versatile gimbal stabilizer that performs extremely well in pretty much any videography or vlogging situation and provides excellent image stabilization to improve your g85 image quality. Considering that the Weebill S is towards the cheaper end of the gimbal price range while offering high-end performance it makes an excellent addition to your camera accessories.

Performance Of The Gimbal

With the Panasonic g85 being such a lightweight camera body that comes in at just over 1.1 pounds of weight the Weebill S is easily able to support it while having pretty much any setup of camera accessories mounted to it too. As the Weebill S is able to easily support camera rigs up to its maximum load capacity of 6.61 pounds of total payload weight, it can easily provide the vast majority, if not all of the popular g85 rigs with excellent image stabilization.

Unlike some of the other compeating gimbals on the market right now, the Weebill S is butter smooth all the way up to its maximum load capacity too as well as if you choose to use a long and heavy lens with your g85. A large number of handheld gimbals on the market right now can have issues if you choose to use a longer lens as it can shift the canter of gravity for the gimbal head and cause vibrations but the design of the Weebill S prevents this. Additionally, for their size, the gimbal motors on the Weebill S offer the highest torque possible ensuring that there are no vibrations or issues with image stabilization the closer you get to its maximum load capacity either.

Zhiyun has also done a great job of ensuring that the Weebill S is as power-efficient as possible too and that there is minimal power wastage during use. Not only has this let Zhiyun use smaller and lighter batteries on the Weebill S but it has also enabled them to get a fourteen-hour battery life out of them too. This is around four hours above the average battery life for a gimbal right now all from batteries that are smaller and lighter than the batteries for compeating gimbals too.

Not only does a smaller and lighter battery mean that the gimbal is easier to travel with but it also reduces the overall weight that your arm has to support during use too. This reduces the risk of your getting any aches or pains when using a heavier Panasonic g85 rig and lets you capture your video footage in peace.

The Zhiyun rapid charge system is also very efficient too and lets you totally recharge the gimbal in only three hours. As each hour of charging will provide you with just shy of five hours of usable power, the Webill S has one of the best charging ratios available at the time of writing too. On top of this, as the latest USB power banks on the market have a very high output level, you are able to add a high output power bank to your camera accessories to recharge your camera while out and about too.

In our opinion, the main reason that the Zhiyun Weebill S stands out as the obvious option for your Panasonic g85 is that it offers the best detection and correction system available on the market right now by far. Although we are confident in saying that the Moza Aircross 2 does come in at a close second place, the Weebill S system is still quicker and more efficient whereas both the Zhiyun and Moza systems are leaps and bounds ahead of everything else on the market right now.

The Zhiyun gimbal sensors are excellent and allow the Weebill S to provide you with excellent levels of image stabilization in a large number of different videography niches with ease. Although some of the other gimbals on the market right now are fine for tasks such as wedding videographers where there is little to no movement to correct, they can definatley struggle in other niches. If you are working in a niche where there are large amounts of vibrations the sensitivity and speed of the Zhiyun gimbal sensors make it the clear winner and best option.

We mentioned that the actual motors on the Weebill S offer some of the best torque that we have ever seen considering how small, light, and power-efficient they are. They actually offer three times the power of the older Zhiyun gimbals and are the main reason that the Weebill S is able to easily support the weight of even the heaviest Panasonic Lumix g85 setup, even if you are using a long lens. The motors just seem to take everything in their stride too and have no problems with overheating during use either helping them score additional points if you are working in a niche where you may be recording for hours at a time.

In addition to the regular manual, follow, lock, and pan modes that gimbals have traditionally supported, the last few gimbals from Zhiyun have also supported Vortex and tracking mode too. Although we actually thought their Vortex mode would just be a waste of time, we have noticed more and more videographers and vloggers using it in their videos as well as compeating gimbal manufactures adding it to their gimbals too.

In our opinion, the Zhiyun tracking system is the best on the market right now and it has managed to beat the DJI system that has held the title for years. It allows you to quickly and easily select a subject that you want your gimbal to focus on while recording so you can move independently without having to manually keep your gimbal head pointing at your subject. This can make your life as a videographer or vlogger so much easier and make it so easy to capture your video footage in some niches.

It really is not surprising to see that the Weebill S has managed to earn so many glowing reviews from third-party, independent videographers in the short time that it has been available on the market. On top of this, it has a customer base that is growing at an exponential rate right now and we doubt that this is going to change any time soon or that a compeating gimbal will knock the Weebill S off its top spot. If you want a solid little gimbal for your Panasonic g85 that has the performance and functionality to last you for years to come then we have no doubt in our mind that the Zhiyun Weebill S is the way to go.

User Interface And Control System

Zhiyun have been constantly tweaking their control system for their gimbals over the last few years to try and come up with the ultimate gimbal interface and they really are doing an excellent job. The system on the Weebill S uses a best of both worlds approach where the interface is ideal for both entry-level and advanced level gimbal users alike offering everything that you could ever need.

This means that if you are purchasing your very first gimbal and have never actually used a stabilizer before, you can quickly get to grips with the Weebill S within minutes of taking out the box. It really is that simple and straight forward and we would imagine that the majority of our readers will be able to get understand what they are doing just by looking at the control interface.

On the flipside of this though, the actual navigation menu also has all of the advanced level customizations and features that you could ever want in a gimbal too. This meets the needs of the advanced level videographers who are doing professional-level paid work and may need more advanced features from their gimbal. In addition to this, if you are brand new to using a gimbal then this also removes the need of having to go out and purchase a new gimbal in a few years as the Weebill S essentially future proofs you as it also offers all of the professional level features you will need as your skillset advances in one product.

Although a few gimbal manufacturers have tried to integrate a touchscreen system in their latest gimbals, Zhiyun has stuck with the more traditional system of a joystick, a few buttons, and an LCD panel that we feel is optimal. The LCD panel is clear and easy to read while also being bright enough to understand if working in low light conditions too. The joystick is also very responsive to touch offering excellent manual control while also being omnidirectional rather than a four way control offering smooth control over the gimbal head when using in manual mode too.

Zhiyun has also upgraded the balancing system on the Weebill S too and after a little practice you should easily be able to get your Panasonic g85 balanced in under a minute. Additionally, if you use multiple cameras or multiple lenses when working, you can also easily adjust the balance of the gimbal when needed as you change the camera accessories that you have mounted to your g85 or simply switch out to a different camera completely.

All in all, Zhiyun has come up with an excellent little interface that they have slowly developed via trial and error over the previous gimbal releases. We feel that they have managed to come up with a great little system that ensures that users of all levels of experience get the most out of the Weebill S and get the image stabilization and performance that they desire.

Smartphone App

Zhiyun has managed to pull a total 180 on their smartphone app over the last year or so taking it from being one of the worst apps on the market to one of the best. As the new Zhiyun tracking mode uses a bunch of the features on the smartphone app for optimal performance, Zhiyun knew that they had to overhaul their app and fix all of the syncing and connectivity issues on it. Although it has definatley taken a few updates to fully correct the issues their app had, it is not in a great place and works flawlessly and offers some great functionality.

As we mentioned, the tracking mode on the Weebill S pretty much forces you to download their smartphone app to get the most out of it as it makes the whole tracking system streamlined and very simple and easy to use too. Once you set up the tracking mode up you only have to touch your smartphone screen to select the subject to track and the gimbal will do the rest for you.

The app offers some wireless remote control functionality too but in all honesty, the usefulness of this wireless remote control will definatley depend on videography or vlogging niche that you are working in. We would imagine that some people will never use it, some people will use it every day but most people will use it once in a blue moon but it is nice to know that it is there if needed.

In our opinion, no matter what niche you are working in, the best feature on the Zhiyun smartphone app is definitely the access to your gimbal settings. Although you can tweak the settings on your Weebill S to get optimal performance for your Panasonic g85 via the physical interface or plugging it into your computer or laptop, these take minutes to make simple changes but the app takes seconds. If you do like to tweak the settings on your gimbal then this can save a ton of time over the source of a longer recording session.

That said though, as the Weebill S has been designed and optimized for use with mirrorless cameras, the default config should provide everything that the vast majority of our readers need without you having to customize the settings on the gimbal anyway. Even if you do use a longer and heavier lens with your g85 then the default config should be able to support it with ease but depending on the length of the lens you may want to make a tweak or two in the app to adjust the power of the gimbals motors for optimal performance.

Build Quality And Design

Although the Zhiyun Crane range has dominated the gimbal space for almost a decade, Zhiyun decided to develop their Weebill range to offer the best possible performance while also being as light and compact as possible. Their goal was to create the perfect gimbal that offers the same levels of performance as the heavy lifting gimbals while also being small and light enough to be a travel gimbal.

They have also designed their Weebill range with build-in, native underslung functionality too via the detachable handle. At the time of writing, the Weebill range of gimbals from Zhiyun is the only range of gimbals that offer this functionality natively and right out the box without you having to purchase a third-party rig for your gimbal. You simply detach your gimbals handle and mount it to either the base or rear mounting plate to get the functionality you need. The whole process is quick and easy and can be done within seconds and without having to remove your Panasonic g85 from the camera either.

Although Zhiyun, DJI, and Moza have always had the best handle grips on their gimbals, Zhiyun has not dropped the ball with the Weebill S and has added an excellent handle grip as standard with your purchase. Not only does it offer a solid grip of the gimbal to allow you to hold it without having a risk of dropping it while also being very comfortable too. The comfort level of the gimbal is perfect for anyone who will be working longer sessions and having to hold their gimbal and Panasonic g85 rig for longer periods of time.

That brings our article going over what we feel is the best gimbal for Panasonic Lumix g85 cameras to a close. As we have touched on throughout the article, there are definatley a number of decent gimbals on the market right now but in our opinion, the Zhiyun Weebill S leads the pack and should definitely be your primary consideration for the g85. Not only is it cheaper than the other leading gimbals but it also offers slightly better performance while also being smaller and lighter too.

We know that some people will likley still be on the fence about the Weebill S so we would highly recommend that you check out some of these independent reviews of the gimbal that has been published by independent videographers and vloggers. They offer some great opinions on how well the Weebill S has performed for other people in pretty much every situation that you can think of.
